Dispatches from Rural America is a series of thoughtful, observational essays that explore the texture of life in small towns and farm country. Each piece captures the humor, hardship, and humanity of rural living through true stories, vivid details, and a grounded voice. It’s about the meaning tucked inside everyday moments—the way food shows up at funerals, how weather becomes personality, and why some traditions matter more than they let on. Rooted in real places and people, Dispatches offers readers a slower, richer lens on America, one story at a time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can we find you on social media?

Social media is fine for some folks—I’m just not one of them. I find more inspiration walking through a county fair or paging through an old book than I do scrolling through curated arguments or vacation photos. I like the analog world: dog-eared paperbacks, front porch conversations, church bulletin boards, and the kind of quiet observation that only happens when you’re not trying to post about it in real time.

"Dispatches from Rural America" is written from life, not from likes. If I’m not answering comments online, it’s probably because I’m watching how a windmill turns in a crosswind or eavesdropping on a retired couple arguing about whether it’s too early to plant tomatoes. That’s where the stories are.

So no, I don’t post on social media. I write.

And you can always reach me the old-fashioned way—by email, handwritten letter, or a knock on the screen door..
